About Me

My name is Xin Shu. I’m currently pursuing my PhD at OpenLab, Newcastle University, supervised by Lei Shi and Xinhuan Shu. I am also a visiting PhD student at the AimLab at New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD), under the supervision of Mohammad Eid.

My research interests broadly encompass Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), with particular emphasis on Artificial Intelligence (AI), Large Language Models (LLM), Virtual Reality (VR), Haptic Technologies, and Multimodal Interaction. My work focuses on leveraging emerging technologies to enhance learning experiences, improve user engagement, and create more intuitive and natural ways for people to interact with technology.

Before my PhD, I earned my master’s degree in Design Informatics from the University of Edinburgh. My undergraduate education includes a dual degree from Jiangxi University of Finance and Economics (China) and Dalarna University (Sweden), along with an exchange program at the University of Oulu (Finland). Additionally, I gained valuable industry experience through product manager internships at NetEase, DiDi, Kuaishou, and Shopee, and I also served as a research assistant at Tsinghua University.

Outside of academia and work, I am passionate about photography, music, and film, interests that continually inspire me to explore innovative intersections between technology, art, and culture.
